The McCormick Sheriff’s Office and the McCormick Police Department will participate in the Hands Across the Border Event on Thursday, Sept. 2. A press event/meeting will be held at Elijah Clark State Park, 2959 McCormick Hwy., Lincolnton, Ga. starting at 6 p.m. Law enforcement from Georgia and South Carolina will hold a safety check point on each side of the 378 bridge beginning at 8 p.m.

Volunteers Needed

The American Legion of South Carolina will hold the giant American flag at the Darlington Raceway Sunday, Sept. 5 for the NASCAR Cook Out Southern 500.
100 Legionnaires will be needed in support of holding the giant American flag during the National Anthem, which will take place during pre-race ceremonies before the truck race at 1:30 on Sept. 5.

The Plum Branch Fire Department is selling tickets for a Bullseye Recteq Grill. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10. The raffle will be held Sept. 11 at the Saddle Club. You do not have to be present to win. Contact any member of the Plum Branch Fire Department for tickets.

• Sept. 12: Homecoming. Lunch will be served following the worship service at the fellowship hall. Bring a covered dish, dessert and/or tea.

Sept. 12-19: Season of Prayer for State Missions.

The McCormick County Livestock Association and Clemson Extension are sponsoring a goat and sheep management program that will cover the basics for raising small ruminants successfully in our area. The meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. at the S.C. Governor’s School for Agriculture at John de la Howe.  A meal will be served at a cost of $6 per person.
There will be a hands-on demonstration outside. Lindsey Craig, livestock and forage area agent with Clemson Extension Service will be the guest speaker.
If you plan to attend, please call the McCormick County Extension office (864-852-3259) by noon Friday, Sept. 10. Follow the prompts and tell which meeting you are registering for, and who will be attending.

• Sept. 19: Homecoming at 11 a.m. This will mark the 250th year since the organization of Long Cane Church. The program will include the Rev. Eldridge Kelley, The Rev. CharlesWilson and the Rev. John Paul Marr. Lower Long Cane will be joined by the congregation of Cedar Springs A.R.P. Church. Cedar Springs and Long Cane were united as one congregation in the early 19th century. A covered dish dinner will be served after the worship service.

The Bowick reunion will be held Sept. 19 at the Buffalo Baptist Church fellowship hall, 3699 Hwy. 28, McCormick, beginning at 1 p.m. Bring covered dish and tea.

Mims Class of 1968

The Mims High School Class of 1968 will meet each month on the fourth Sunday at 4 p.m. at the MACK.
