A Meet ’n Greet will be held for Marge Elmore (candidate for McCormick Town Mayor) and Faye Hood (candidate for McCormick Town Council District 6) on Monday, March 2 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce, 100 S. Main Street, McCormick. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited to attend.

The McCormick United Methodist Church will host a celebration of the World Day of Prayer, Zimbabwe at 11 a.m., Friday, March 6.
Music, prayer, fellowship and refreshments are scheduled. Join with women all over the world to pray for host sisters in Zimbabwe.

Fish Fry

The Good Shepherd Men’s Club will be holding a fish fry on Friday, March 6, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Parish Life Center. You will get all you can eat fried fish, French fries, cole slaw and cookies for dessert. Drinks include regular and unsweetened iced tea. Price is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Good Shepherd Church is located on highway 221 going towards Greenwood. Call Dave McKloskey 864-391-4445 or Jack Nickol 864-391-5556 for tickets.

The MACK will host the 15th Annual Youth Art Exhibition and Reception on Friday, March 6, 6 – 8 p.m. This exhibition will remain on display through the month of March and all Best in Show winners will be announced at the reception to receive Summer Art Camps scholarships. The Barbas will be featured as live entertainment.

The MACK is located at 115 South Main Street, McCormick.

• March 7: The church will sponsor a free health screening from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the McCormick County Library.

• March 8: Annual Family & Friends Day Program at 11:15 a.m. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Willie Patten, pastor of Republican Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Johnny Peterson is pastor.

• March 8: The gospel choir will celebrate their 48th anniversary at 3 p.m.

Meeting

McCormick County First Steps Partnership Board will meet on Tuesday, March 10 at 4 p.m. at the McCormick County Library. The public is welcome and all board members are encouraged to attend.

The next regular meeting of the McCormick County Livestock Association is Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at the Talmadge Fitness and Wellness Complex Restaurant at 1319 South Main Street. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

Clay Williams with Corteva Agriscience will be the guest speaker and will discuss “Weed Control in Pastures and Hay Crops.”

A roast beef meal will be served. Corteva Agriscience will cover part of the cost of the meal. The meal fee will be $10 a person for members, and $15 a person for non-members.

If you plan to attend, please call the McCormick County Extension office (864-852-3259) by 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5. Please tell which meeting you are registering for and who will be attending. Note this is an earlier call-in deadline than usual as requested by the restaurant.

Encore Productions will have its first show in the 2020 season, Hank Williams: Lost Highway, on March 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 in the Elbert Theatre, 203 Elbert Street, Elberton, Ga.

Casino Night

The Humane Society of McCormick County presents “Casino Night”, Saturday, March 14 at the “Red Barn”, Hickory Knob State Resort Park, McCormick from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $35 and will be available at the McCormick Chamber of Commerce and Lee Builders. Job Fair Cancelled

Piedmont Technical College and the Upper Savannah Council of Governments have decided to cancel the Upper Savannah Regional Job Fair that was scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 19, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the James Medford Family Event Center on the Greenwood Campus.

The Humane Society of McCormick County, Savannah Valley Railroad Trails and the Sandy Branch First Responders have postponed the Tails on Trails event which was scheduled for March 21.

The Good Shepherd Men’s Club regrets to inform you that they are cancelling the pancake breakfast scheduled for March 22 due to the concern for the coronavirus. They will also be cancelling the scheduled fish fry for April 3. They hope to resume these activities after the pandemic has subsided. Thanks to all who have supported the Good Shepherd Men’s Club activities.
